Bafokeng CodeLab is a partnership between the Royal Bafokeng Nation Development Trust through Royal Impact and CodeSpace to let talented young people in the Royal Bafokeng Nation (RBN) start high-impact tech careers.

Students will enrol in CodeSpace’s full-time Software Engineering qualification and CodeSpace’s Career Coaching programme, which prepares them to start their careers in the tech industry. Students will, if successful, not only receive funded tuition but also a laptop to use during their studies and access to the Bafokeng CodeLab campus.

Bafokeng CodeLab is a critical part of Royal Impact’s strategy to move the RBN towards an entrepreneurial and innovation-driven economy and make Phokeng one of Africa’s foremost producers of Software Engineers for the future.

CodeSpace is a globally renowned education institution that gives students the opportunity to gain in-demand coding skills. Students at Bafokeng CodeLab will enrol in a 12-month full-time study programme. You do not need to have any coding experience nor any background in IT to join this programme.


Bafokeng CodeLab Eligibility Criteria:

  • Matric certificate
  • Mofokeng by heritage/live in the Royal Bafokeng Nation (if not Mofokeng)
  • 18+ years old
  • Able to commit to full-time studies
  • No coding experience required

2. Complete a 30-minute online challenge.

3. Complete an Admissions Assessment at the Bafokeng Conference Centre (3 hours).

4. Attend a two-week Selection Programme at the Bafokeng Conference Centre.

5. If successful and selected, start your studies on 15 January 2024.

Am I eligible to study at Bafokeng CodeLab?

To be eligible, you need the following:
  • Mofokeng by heritage or live in the Royal Bafokeng Nation (if not Mofokeng).
  • Must have a Matric certificate.
  • Cannot be employed or enrolled in other studies.
  • Be available to attend mandatory classes from 9.00am - 5.00pm on weekdays.
  • Be able to attend the campus in Phokeng, Rustenburg.

How long is the study programme at Bafokeng CodeLab?

The study programme at Bafokeng CodeLab will run for 12 months and includes the Software Engineering curriculum and workplace training.
